Fubars Win USSSA Class D In St
Charles
Nine Team One Day Tournament At
East Side Sports Complex On May 21st

ST CHARLES: Fubars from Elgin
(4-1) came back in the 'if necessary game' to upend Lovell's (5-2)
from De Kalb 15-4 to win the USSSA Men's Class D National Qualifier
played at the East Side Sports Complex In St Charles on May 21st.
Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors(2-2) from Plano took home third place
with D.Q. Grill & Chill/Softball Inc.(2-2) from Rockford finishing
in fourth place.
Fubars opened play with a 7-0 forfeit win over Krush/46 Zone from
Romeoville who no showed at this tournament in the first round of
tournament play. In game number two Fubars met and defeated Lovell's
12-8 to put them into the winner's bracket finals.
In the showdown between the tournaments last two remaining unbeaten
teams it Fubars getting the better of Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors
8-6 given them the title to the winner's bracket while assuring
Fubars of a spot in the championship game against whichever team
that would emerge from the loser's bracket to challenge them in
that title game. Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors made it to this game
by opening play with a narrow 7-6 win over the Stallions/Famous
Lunchmeat in the first round of play and than they defeated D Q
Grill & Chill/Softball Inc 13-8 in their semifinal game of the
winner's bracket to get into the winners bracket finals.
As the dust settled back down onto the field of play at the conclusion
of the loser's bracket it was Lovell's as the team still standing
who would oppose Fubars in that championship showdown. Lovell's
need to defeat Fubars twice went to work as they upended the Elgin
ball cub with a convincing 15-5 win to force the need to have the
extra game played in order to determine which of these two teams
would be the tournament champion. Fubars turned the tables on Lovell's
and handed them back a resounding loss to claim the title by the
finals score of 15-4.
Fubars did not provide Illinois Softball Report with any team information,
stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able to win this tournament.
Tournament runner-up Lovell's opened play with a 12-6 win over the
Hot Shots in their opening contest. Game number two was a loss to
Fubars 12-8 sending Lovell's into the loser's bracket.
Lovell's got their ship righted and went to work sending teams packing
for home starting with the Stallions/Famous Lunchmeat by the final
score of 12-8. D Q Grill & Grill/Softball Incexited the tournament
next at the hands of Lovell's after they suffered a 15-2 loss to
the De Kalb based ball club. Lovell now needed to win one more game
to get back to the championship contest with Fubars and they were
now a team on a roll as they rolled over Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors
16-1 to move into the championship contest.
Lovell's now had the opportunity to extract a little revenge from
the team that had put them into the loser's bracket earlier in the
day and that is exactly what they did winning by another impressive
score with a 15-5 win being posted up onto the bracket board. This
win made it necessary to play that extra game where the winner claims
the title and Fubars & Lovell's squad off with each other for
the third time this day with each team having won one game.
This time the outcome was all Fubars as a tired but game Lovell's
ball club fell to them by a final score or 15-4 and had to settle
for second place.
Lovell's did not supply Illinois Softball Report with any team information,
stats, highlights or quotes from this tournament in which they took
second place in.
