Earps Win ISA Tavern State

Twelve Teams Participate In Lower Division In Urbana On July 14 & 15

URBANA: Earps won the 2007 ISA Men's Tavern State Lower Division Tournament played at the Brickhouse Complex in Urbana on July 14th & 15th with a perfect 4-0 record. Skyline Mover (4-2) took home second place with Kelly Glass (2-2) finishing in third place and Long N Hard (4-2) taking home fourth place from this twelve-team event.
Shawn Newby of Earps was named as the tournament's 'Most Valuable Player' for his outstanding efforts during this tournament. Joining Newby on the 2007 Tavern State 'All-Tournament' Team were his Earps teammates Casey Coatz, Jeremy Schoor, Ryan Tate, Scott Claden and Luke Kulley.
Earps was one of four teams receiving a first round bye as they opened play in the second round with a game against Outskirts as they posted a shutout on the board winning 10-0. Outskirts had won their first round game 13-3 over Kelly's Pub to move into this second contest against Earps.
On Saturday evening Earps and Skyline Movers lock up with each other with Earps coming out on top this game winning 15-12 to advance them into the winner's bracket undefeated game on Sunday afternoon.
In the game that featured the last two remaining unbeaten team left in this tournament it was Earps and Kelly Glass going toe to toe with Earps getting the better of it on this Sunday winning 13-8 to become the lone unbeaten team left in this tournament. Kelly Glass made it to the winner's bracket unbeaten game by opening play with a first round bye before beating the Beer Hunters 8-3 in the second round on Saturday afternoon and them defeating TNT Hammer's 15-12 on Saturday evening to become one of the last two unbeaten team left in this tournament.
Now Earps had to sit and wait until the loser's bracket play was completed and when it was over a rematch against Skyline Movers was on tap for Earps in the tournament's championship game. Earps took care of business as they competed their undefeated run to the 2007 ISA Men's Tavern State Title in the lower division by beating Skyline Mover 14-12.
Skyline Mover was led to the title game by the outstanding defense that was played by Brett Davis who was named as the 'Gold Glove' player of the tournament. Joining Davis on the 2007 ISA Men's Tavern State Tournament 'All-Tournament' team were his Skyline Mover teammates; Andy Galbreath, Bob Rurche, Cliff Berardeic and Jeff Brashares.
Skyline Mover made it to the championship game by opening play against Long N Hard in the second round with a 17-7 win on Saturday afternoon after they had received a first round bye. Long N Hard had advanced into this second round contest with Skyline Mover by beating O'Brien / El Toro 19-14 in the first round of play.
On Saturday evening Skyline Mover dropped a game to Earps 15-12 to send them into the loser's bracket where they played next on Sunday morning.
ON Sunday Skyline Mover right their ship with a 17-15 win over Corner Stone before beating Long N Hard in a one run game 12-11.
Now playing on Sunday afternoon it was Skyline Mover and Kelly Glass going head to head with the winner getting a chance to challenge unbeaten Earps in the tournaments championship game. Skyline Mover was that team as they stopped Kelly Glass in the loser's bracket championship game 11-4 to earn the right to oppose unbeaten Earps in the championship game.
Skyline Mover gave it a good shot but came up a little short as they dropped a 14-12 decision to Earps in the championship game to finish in second place at the 2007 ISA Men's Tavern State Tournament - lower division.
