D's Nuts Champions At ISA Class D In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD: D's Nuts Softball from Springfield went 3-0 to win ISA Men's Class D qualifier at Four Seasons Complex in Springfield on April 15th. The Swinging Dixx (3-2) was second as Peagan Oleary (1-2) from La Salle finished in third place at this five team event.
D's Nuts open tournament action with a back and forth battle with Big Ox and came out on top by the final score of 20-15. Big Ox had beaten the Swinging Dixx in a pig tail game in order to qualify to play D's Nuts in the firs round of this tournament.
Game number two was a match-up between D's Nuts and Peagan Oleary in game that proved to be close throughout but with the D's Nuts prevailing by a final score of 17-12 to assure them of a place in the championship game against whichever team that would win the loser's bracket to earn the right to face them in the title contest. Peagan Oleary had advanced to play in this game by defeating Mutts from Springfield (no score was reported) in their opening game.
When the loser's bracket was played out to its conclusion it was the Swinging Dixx that was the team still alive to challenge D's Nuts for the title and the berth to play at the 2006 ISA Men's Class D world Tournament.
D's Nuts came out focused on the job at hand and exploded for nine huge runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead in the championship game. Defense was the key the rest of the game as they continually shut down the Swinging Dixx rallies with sparkling defensive plays as they won the title undefeated winning the championship game 15-10 over the Swinging Dixx.
For the tournament the D's Nuts ball club was led by the defense of Josh Jennings (SS) and the hitting of J.D. McTaggart, Tyler Welch, and Brian Bentley as these three combine to make only four outs in the entire tournament.
The Swinging Dixx made it to the title game by losing their opener to Big Ox. Now playing from the loser's bracket they sent home Mutts first followed by a revenge victory over the team that had put them into the losers bracket Big Ox and than finally sending Peagan Oleary to their cars to pack for the trip home after beating them to earn a shot at playing unbeaten D's Nuts in the title game. The championship game went to D's Nut over the Swinging Dix 15-10 to send the Swinging Dixx home with a second place finish at this tournament.
