Dirtbags Champions of 'Kiss-It' Class C

Eight Teams Partake At Lippold Fields In Crystal Lake

CRYSTAL LAKE: The Dirtbags (4-0) from Aurora went undefeated in winning the Illinois USSSA Men's Class C 2007 'Kiss-It' Tournament held at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake on July 7th & 8th. The champions took home the top cash prize with Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall (3-2) from Rockford finishing in second place with Huntley Realty / Posse (3-2) from Crystal Lake taking home fourth place and Add-A-Bath / Demarini (2-2) from Gurnee finishing in fourth place at this eight team event.
The Dirtbags opened play late on Saturday afternoon and needed to use extra Innings in order to slip past Mulligan's Saloon from McHenry 16-15 in eight innings. The Dirtbags had to come from behind to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning before having to come from behind to tie and than win the game in the eighth inning at advance in the bracket.
On Saturday evening it was the Dirtbags and Huntley Realty / Pose squaring off in the second round of play with the Dirtbags posting their second straight one run win onto the bracket board as they advanced into the winner's bracket finals with a 11-10 win over Huntley Realty / Posse. Huntley Realty / Posse had beaten Taken Swings 22-9 in the first round of play to advance into this second round contest against the Dirtbags.
On Sunday afternoon playing in the winner's bracket undefeated game the Dirtbags tangled with Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall and emerged with a 20-17 victory to become the only unbeaten team left in this tournament. The Dirtbags now needed to wait until the loser's bracket was played out to its conclusion before knowing which team would earn the right to be their opposition in the championship game and when the loser's bracket play was compete a rematch against Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall was in store for the Dirtbags in the title game.
The Dirtbags were all business in the championship game winning 15-7 to complete their undefeated run to the title at the 2007 'Kiss-It' softball tournament.
Souse's Lounge made it to the championship game by opening play with a first round 16-12 win over the Frozen Ropes / Stables from Rock Falls advancing them in the bracket.
Later on Saturday evening Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall slipped past Add-A-Bath / Demarini 1-9 to earn the right to oppose the Dirtbags in Sunday afternoons' winner's bracket undefeated game. Add-A-Bath / Demarini had beaten Squeeze Softball 12-10 in the first round of play to advance into this second round match-up against Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall.
On Sunday afternoon Souse's Lounge / Rogers Drywall started their day out on the wrong foot losing to the Dirtbags by a final score of 20-17 to drop the Rockford area based ball club into the loser's bracket finals where they met Huntley Realty / Posse wit the winner earning the right to play the unbeaten Dirtbags in the championship game.
Souse's Lounge / Roger Drywall bounced back in this game to post a victory up onto the bracket board as they defeated Huntley Realty / Posse 8-5 to earn a second shot at playing the Dirtbags.
This was as close as Souse's lounge / Rogers Drywall would get on this Sunday as the Dirtbags handed them their second defeat of this tournament and with that loss also forcing them to accept the second place cash payout from this tournament.
