Five Teams, One Day Event At East Side Sports Complex On May 20th

ST CHARLES: The Dirtbags from Aurora went a perfect 3-0 to capture the title at the five team USSSA Men's Class C National Qualifier played at the East Side Sports Complex in St Charles on May 20th. The champions earned a berth to play at the 2006 USSSA Men's Class C Great Lakes national Tournament to be held over Labor Day Weekend in Canton, MI. Primetime (2-2) from Joliet finished in second place with the Slugs (2-2) from Aurora taking home third place.
The Dirtbags opened play against Yep! from Burbank and posted a 14-7 win up onto the bracket board to advance. In their second contest the Dirtbags and Primetime hooked up with each other as the Dirtbags got the better of it in this game winning 17-9 to put them into the tournament's championship game against whichever team that would emerge from the loser's bracket to challenge them for the title. That team turned out to be Primetime as these two ball clubs engaged in a rematch in the title contest. This day belonged to the Dirtbags as they won for the second straight time over Primetime defeating them 15-5 in the deciding game of this tournament.
Primetime made it to the championship game by opening play with a narrow 10-9 win over the Slugs in the first round of tournament action. He Slugs had to have won a pigtail game over Lovell's from De Kalb 22-7 to advance into this first round game with Primetime. Game number two pitted Primetime against the Dirtbags with the Dirtbags getting the better of on this day defeating Primetime by a final score of 17-9. This loss dropped Primetime into the loser's bracket finals where they need to win in order to earn a second chance at both the Dirtbags and the tournament title. Primetime took care of business as they met and defeated the Slugs for the second time on this Saturday afternoon winning 19-8 to put themselves into a position of playing the Dirtbags for the tournament championship. His was as close as Primetime would get on this Saturday as the Dirtbags complete their undefeated run to the title stopping Primetime 15-5 in the championship game to send Primetime back to Joliet with second place from this event.
