The Corner Pub Wins USSSA Women's
Class C State

Tournament In Rockford On Aug. 27 & 28

The Corner Pub Champions Of Illinois/Wisconsin
USSSA Women's Class C State
ROCKFORD: The Corner Pub (4-1)
from Milwaukee won the 2005 Illinois/Wisconsin USSSA Women's Class
C State title at the Forest Hills Diamonds in Rockford on August
27th & 28th by beating the Blackhawk Athletic Club (4-2) from
Rockford 15-2 in the 'if necessary game' to claim the title Linda
Gritzmacher from the Corner Pub was named as the 'Most Valuable
Player' of this years state tournament. She was joined on the All-Tournament
team by her Corner Tap teammates; Kristian Lovering, Priscilla Posick
and Mandy Lindwall. The Worth/Northern Diamonds (4-2) from McHenry
finished in third place with Add-A-Bath/Demarini (3-2) from Gurnee
taking home fourth place from this tournament.
The Corner Pub opened play with an impressive 16-8 win over High
Voltage from St Charles in the first round of this tournament.
In their second contest it was The Corner Pub defeating Add-A-Bath/Demarini
in a close game 7-6 to put them into Sunday morning's semifinal
round of the winner's bracket. Add-A-Bath/Demarini had received
a first round bye before taking on The Corner Pub in their opening
game of this tournament.
On Sunday morning it was The Corner Pub edging out Prime Time from
Charleston in a close game 10-8 to put them into the winner's bracket
finals. Prime Time made it to this semifinal game by opening with
a first round 17-1 win over Vertex before stopping Ipsen International
from Belvidere 17-7 in the second round to move into this Sunday
morning game with The Corner Pub.
In the game between the last two remaining unbeaten teams it was
The Corner Pub and Blackhawk Athletic Club squaring off for the
first of three meetings on this Sunday with the Corner Pub recording
the first win between these two ball club by a final score of 13-6
to give them the championship to the winner's bracket.
Now The Corner Pub had to sit and wait until the loser's bracket
was completed before knowing who would be their opponent in the
championship game and when the loser's bracket was finally completed
it was a rematch with Blackhawk Athletic Club that was in store
for The Corner Pub in the championship game.
Blackhawk Athletic Club gained some revenge by upending The Corner
Pub 14-4 in the first game to even the series at one win each and
this win also forced the need to play the 'if necessary game' in
order to determine which of these two team would wear the crown
as the 2005 Illinois/Wisconsin USSSA Women's Class C State Champions.
In that deciding game it was all The Corner Pub as they won big
15-2 over Blackhawk athletic Club to win this state tournament.
The corner Pub did not provide Illinois Softball Report with any
team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able
to win this state tournament.
Blackhawk Athletic Club was led by the play of Jen Pozzani who was
named as the 'Defensive M.V.P.' of this state tournament. Three
other Blackhawk Athletic Club players were also named to the All-State
Tournament team and they were, Miranda Fudge, Kara Kelly and Becky
Hessenauer
Both Blackhawk Athletic Club and their first game opponent Rosati's
Of Wheaton received first round byes before tangling with each other
in the second round of play with Blackhawk Athletic Club posting
an 5-4 win over Rosati's Of Wheaton to advance in the bracket.
On Sunday morning it was Blackhawk Athletic Club sending Cook's
Grading from Janesville to the loser's bracket after beating them
18-5 to put the ladies from Rockford into the winner's bracket championship
game.
Now with only two remaining unbeaten teams left in this tournament
it was Blackhawk Athletic Club playing The Corner Pub with the winner
being assured of their spot in the tournament's championship game
and it was The Corner Pub defeating Blackhawk Athletic Club 13-6
to drop the Rockford squad into the loser's bracket.
IN a wild high scoring game Blackhawk Athletic Club defeated Worth/Northern
Diamonds 20-12 to win the loser's bracket and earn a second shot
at unbeaten The Corner Pub in the state championship game.
The Blackhawk Athletic Club took advantage of their second chance
at The Corner Pub and handed the Milwaukee ladies a decisive 14-4
loss to force the playing of the 'if game' between these two teams
in order to determine which of them would be the 2005 Illinois/Wisconsin
USSSA Women's Class C State Champions.
In the extra Game The Corner Pub broke on top and never looked back
as the won easily over the Blackhawk Athletic Club 15-2 to take
the combined state title North with them to Wisconsin.
The Blackhawk Athletic Club did not supply Illinois Softball Report

were able to finish in second place at this state tournament.
