Chicago Steel Champions At NSA
C/D
Nine Teams Participate AT Melas
Field In Arlington Heights On 5/28

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS: Chicago Steel
(4-1) came back in the 'if necessary game' to edge Roundin' Third
(5-2) 22-20 to win the NSA Men's Class C/D tournament held at Melas
Fields in Arlington Heights on May 28th. Head First (2-2) finished
in third place with the Wizards (2-2) taking home fourth place from
this tournament.
Chicago Steel opened play with a big 32-22 win over Roundin' Third
in the first rounds of tournament action. Chicago Steel improved
to 2-0 when they posted a narrow 8-7 win over the Wizards up onto
the bracket board in their semifinal game of this nine team event.
In the game between the tournament last two remaining unbeaten teams
it was Head First falling to Chicago Steel 9-7 giving Chicago Steel
the championship of the winners bracket while ensuring them a spot
in the tournament's championship game against whichever team that
would win the loser's bracket.
That team was Roundin' Third who came full circle from losing their
very first game to playing the team that had beaten them earlier
in the day in the finals. Roundin' Third came into this game felling
that they had something to prove and did just that winning 14-7
to force the playing of the 'if necessary game'. The extra game
was a close game as they should be with Chicago Steel winning 22-20
over Roundin' Third to win the tournament title.
Chicago Steel did not supply Illinois Softball Report with any team
information, stats, highlights or quote son how they were able to
win this tournament.
Tournament runner up Roundin' Third took the long road to the championship
game by losing their very first game to Chicago Steel 32-22. This
loss sent Roundin' Third into the loser's bracket were they regrouped
quickly and as they met the Road Dawgs from Crystal Lake and posted
a 5-3 win onto the bracket board.
Next to exit this tournament at the hands of Roundin' Third was
Team Complete who fell by the final score of 7-5. The Wizards were
excused from the tournament next by Roundin' Third after absorbing
a 21-7 loss.
In the final game of the loser's bracket where the winner earns
the right to challenge the undefeated Chicago Steel in the championship
game Roundin' Third and Head First went toe to toe with Roundin''
Third getting the better of this day winning 19-11.
It is always a sweet feeling to hand a loss back to the team that
put your ball club into the loser's bracket earlier in the tournament
and that is exactly what Roundin' Third did as they defeated Chicago
Steel 14-7. In the extra game where the winner claims the title
and the top prize that goes with that title it was Chicago Steel
stopping Roundin' Third 22-20 to send them home with second place
from this event.
Roundin' Third did not send Illinois Softball Reports any team information,
highlights, stats or quote on how they were able to achieve their
success in finishing in second place at this tournament.
