TPS / ISA Men's Class E NIT Runner-up
Cold Beer
In the final deciding game it was Chicago
Hot Dogs pulling away to win 9-1 to put their hands on the berth
to play ion Florida at the 2007 ISA Men's Class E World Tournament.
The TPS sponsored tournament runner up Cold Beer was led by the
defensive play of Josh Dieken who was named as the outstanding defensive
player of the tournament. Joining Dieken on the 'All-Tournament'
team were his cold Beer teammates John Fullencamp, Craig Lowery,
Wayne Woller and Justin May.
Cold Beer made it to the championship game by opening play in the
TPS Men's Class E NIT by defeating Team Thunder from Peoria 17-2
in the first round of tournament action.
In the second round it was Cold Beer playing against Earps from
Peoria with Cold Beer winning a high scoring game 17-16 to move
into the semifinal of the winner's bracket. Earp's had defeated
Beer Hunters from Urbana in a close game 12-11 in the first round
of tournament play to advance into their game against Cold Beer
in the second round of play.
Late on Saturday afternoon Cold Beer and JBH from Urbana went toe
to toe with Cold Beer winning a one run game edging JBH 8-7 to advance
into Sunday's winner's bracket finals. JBH made it to the tournament's
semifinal by opening play with a first round 8-6 win over Off In
The Woods from Peoria. In the second round JBH met and defeated
the Fun Police from Chicago 18-6 to advance into their semifinal
game against Cold Beer.
On Sunday Cold Beer broke out their bats as the platted twenty runs
in a win over Dizzy Dean's/Dave's Pizza 20-13 to become the only
unbeaten team left in this tournament. Dizzy Dean's/Dave Pizza made
it to the winner's bracket championship game by opening tournament
play with a first round 12-11 win over Michigan Line Drive from
Warren, Michigan. In the second round of play it Dizzy Dean's/Dave's
Pizza stopping the Ball Busters 12-11 to advance them into the semifinal
round of the winner's bracket. On Saturday's third and final game
for Dizzy Dean's/Dave's Pizza the Bartonville based ball club recorded
their third straight one run win edging out Chicago Hot Dogs 19-18
to move into Sunday winner's bracket championship game against Cold
Beer.
Now Cold Beer was forced to sit back and wait as the loser's bracket
unfolded on the field of play before knowing who their opponent
would be in the championship game of the 2007 TPS/ISA Men's Class
E NIT. When the final out of the loser's bracket has been recorded
into the official scorebook Cold Beer and Chicago Hot Dogs were
set to face off with one another.
The fist championship game was everything a championship game should
be. Lead changes , big defensive plays and key hits as Chicago Hot
Dogs found a way to slip past Cold Beer 21-20 to force the need
to have the 'if game played to decide the champion of the T.P.S.
sponsored tournament. The champion turned out to be Chicago Hot
Dogs as Cold Beer dropped two straight game losing the second game
9-1 forcing them to go home with the second place team award's package.
