Caps/Fury Win ASA Class D In Westchester

Six Teams Participate At National Qualifying Event On July 30th

WESTCHESTER: Caps/Fury from Lombard won the ASA Men's Class D National Qualifying Tournament held at Mayfair Park in Westchester on July 30th with a perfect 4-0 record. The champions pocket the top prize money of $225.00 and passed the ASA National Berth to Salem Virginia over Labor Day Weekend down to the third place team (tournament runner-up Buzz already has a berth also). Buzz (3-2) from Westchester finished in second place, Buzz Saw (2-2) took home third place with Psychos (1-2) taking home fourth place from this tournament.
Caps/Fury opened tournament play with a 21-16 win over the Big Dogs to advance in the bracket.
In their second round contest Caps/Fury won by a forfeit over Joltin' Joes who failed to field a team at game time by the score of 7-0. Joltin' Joes had received a first round bye in this six team qualifier to move into the second round of tournament play.
In the winner's bracket finals it was Caps/Fury and Buzz going toe to toe with Caps Fury getting the better of it winning 14-8 to assure the a spot in the tournament's championship game against whichever team that wins the loser's bracket to earn the right to be their opponent in the finals.
The championship game was a rematch with Buzz and the game was a real knock down drag out one with offense being the name of the game. The Caps Fury ball club looked up at the scoreboard after the final play had been made to see that they held a one run lead 22-21 giving the title to this tournament and the top cash prize that went with that title.

Tournament runner-up Buzz opened tournament play with a first round contest against the Psychos and won that game 17-4 to advance in the bracket.
Buzz played their second game against the Buzz saw ball club and they won again by the final score of 26-14 to put Buzz into the winner's brackets undefeated game. Buzz saw had drawn a first round bye to advance into this game against buzz in the second round of tournament action.
Buzz dropped the undefeated game to Caps/Fury by a final score of 14-8 sending them into the loser's bracket where they met Buzz Saw for the second time on this day with the winner getting a shot at unbeaten Caps/Fury in the championship game. Buzz took care of business as they defeated Buzz Saw for the second time in this tournament winning 9-6. This win earned Buzz a second shot at Caps/Fury and the tournament title.
Both teams went at each other with everything that they had and when the last out had been recorded it was Caps/Fury leading on the scoreboard by a single run 22-21 thus giving them the title undefeated at this tournament with Buzz forced to accept second place from this tournament.
