Caps/Fury Champions AT ASA D In
Westchester
Seven Teams Participate At Mayfair
Park On June 4th & July 30th

WESTCHESTER: Caps/Fury from
Lombard won the seven team ASA Men's Class D National Qualifier
played at Mayfair Park in Westchester on June 4th and continued
after a weather rain delay on July 30th by double dipping Buzz Saw
15-9 and 15-2 in the finals to claim the title. The champions earned
a berth to play at the ASA Men's Class D Eastern National Tournament
to be held over Labor Day weekend at Salem, Virginia and $220.00
in sponsor travel money. Buzz Saw (3-2) was second, Joltin' Joes
(2-2) was third, and the Psychos (2-2) took home fourth place from
this tournament.
Caps/Fury opened tournament play with a first round game against
WFAD Mustangs from Chicago and posted a victory onto the bracket
board (no score was reported). In the second round of tournament
play Cap/Fury lost to Buzz Saw (no score was reported) dropping
them into the loser's bracket where they first met the Storm and
showed them the exit door to advance (no score was reported) in
the bracket.
After a long weather related delay the tournament was now suspended
until July 30th when it was resumed from the point that it was at
when the delay caused the stoppage of play.
Cap/Fury came out of the gate on fire scoring fourteen big runs
to put away the Psychos by a final score of 14-3 to put them into
the loser's bracket championship game.
Caps/Fury now were set to squared off with Joltin' Joes, who could
not return at this date so Caps/Fury won by forfeit 7-0 to move
into the championship game.
Caps Fury was on a roll now and they handed Buzz saw a fast 15-9
loss to force the need to have the 'if necessary game' played between
these two ball clubs in order to determine which of them would be
the champion of this tournament.
The extra game was all Caps/Fury as the pounded out a 15-2 win to
claim the championship and take the berth to play in Virginia over
Labor Day Weekend at the ASA Men's Class A National Tournament.
Caps/Fury did not provide Illinois Softball Report with any team
information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able to
win this tournament.
Buzz Saw made it to the championship game by winning the winner's
bracket as they opened tournament play with a win over the Psychos
(no score was reported) in the first round of play. In the second
round of play it was Buzz saw over Caps/Fury (no score as reported)
to but them into the winner's bracket finals when the weather delay
stopped tournament play until July 30th when it was resumed.
When play was resumed on July 30th Buzz Saw was set to take the
field against Joltin' Joes but their opponent could not return to
play on this day so Buzz Saw advanced into the championship game
via a 7-0 forfeit win over Joltin' Joes.
Buzz Saw now was set to take the field against Caps/Fury in the
championship game needing to only win one more game to claim the
tournament title but the Lombard based Caps/Fury had other ideas
as they sent a clear message in the fir t game wining 15-9 to force
the need to have the 'if necessary game' played to determine which
of these two teams would earn the berth to play in Virginia over
Labor day Weekend at the ASA Men's Class A National Tournament.
In the deciding game it was Caps/Fury over Buzz saw 15-2 to send
Buzz Saw home with second place with $125.0 in sponsor travel money.
Buzz saw did not supply Illinois Softball Report with any team information,
stats, quotes or highlights on how they were able to finish in second
place at this tournament.
