JOLIET: Caps/Fury from Lombard went a perfect 3-0 to capture the three team USSSA Men's Class D National Qualifier played at the Inwood Sports Complex in Joliet on May 28th.
The champions opened play with a 14-6 win over Jolt-N-Joe's from Crete in the first round of tournament play. They than took on and defeated Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors from Plano 14-2 in the second round of action. Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors had received a first round bye to get to this second round game.
Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors and Jolt-N-Joes now squared off in the loser's bracket with Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors earning a 7-4 win to get a second chance to Caps/Fury and the tournament title.
Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors jumped out to a big lead at 11-1 before Caps/Fury started their comeback in the championship game. Caps/Fury raised their defensive level up a couple of notches and slammed the door on the Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors offense as they chipped away at the ten run deficit. Caps/Fury final overcame Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors to win 14-13 to claim the National Berth being offered at this tournament.
