Buzz Wins ASA Class D In Westchester

Six Teams Participate At Mayfair Park On July 16th

WESTCHESTER: Buzz from Westchester went a perfect 3-0 to win the ASA Men's Class D Qualifier played at Mayfair Park in Westchester on July 16th. The champions earned a berth to play at the 2005 AS Men's Class D National Tournament to be held over Labor Day Weekend in Salem, Virginia while pocketing $225.00 to help with expenses. Billy Martin Softball (3-2) from Arlington Heights finished in second place, Big Dogs (2-2) took home third place with J. Denny Masonry (1-2) from Kankakee finishing in fourth place.
Buzz received a first round bye in this six team event before taking on and defeating the Psychos 16-10 in the second round of tournament play. The Psychos had won their first round game over J. Denny Masonry 11-10 to move into this second round contest with Buzz.
Now playing in the winner's bracket finals Buzz squared off with the Big Dogs and came away with the win (no score was reported) to move them into the championship game against whichever team that would emerge from the loser's bracket to challenge them in the title contest. Big Dogs made it to the winner's bracket championship game by opening play with a first round 16-13 win over Billy Martin Softball and then defeating Pot Bellies from Westmont 23-5 in the second round to advance into the winner's bracket finals.
Buzz now needed to sit and wait as the loser's bracket was played out to its conclusion and when it was over, Billy Martin Softball was the team left standing earning the right to oppose Buzz in the finals.
In a close game Buzz edged out Billy Martin Softball 9-8 to complete their undefeated run to the title at this ASA Men's Class D National Qualifying Tournament.

Tournament runner-up Billy Martin Softball made it to the title game the hard way by losing their opening game of the tournament to the Big Dogs 16-15. Now playing with their backs against the wall from the loser's bracket as they dismissed Psycho from the tournament first after beating them 4-1 to advance in the bracket. J. Denny Masonry exit next after losing to Billy Martin Softball 18-15 as the Arlington Height ball club continued to advance through the bracket.
Billy Martin Softball now had a chance at gaining a measure of revenge as they were now set to play the Big Dogs, the team that had put them into the loser's bracket earlier in the day. Billy Martin took that pound of flesh from the Big Dogs as they sent them to the parking lot to pack their cars for the trip home after posting a 12-4 win over the Big Dogs unto the bracket board to put Billy Martin Softball into the tournament's championship game.
It was here that Billy Martin Softball dram of coming all the back through the loser's bracket to win this tournament ended as Buzz defeated them in a close game 9-8 to send them home with second place from this tournament.
