Six Teams,One Day Event At Red
Bud Sports Complex On May 20th
RED BUD: The Beavers (5-1) from
O'Fallon came through the loser's bracket of the six teams, one
day event to double dip Semo Fence / US National Guard (2-2) from
McClure 17-15 and 18-17 to win the USSSA Men's Class E Great Lakes
national Qualifier played at the Red Bud Sports Complex in Red Bud
on May 20th. The champions earned a berth to play at the 2006 USSSA
Men's Class E Great Lakes National Tournament to be held over Labor
Day Weekend in Ft Knox, KY. The Killer Beez (3-2) from O'Fallon
took home third place with Keglars Korner (1-2) from Wamac finishing
in four place at this tournament.
The Beavers opened play with a first round game against Abate /
Freedon Riders from Junction City and quickly posted a 13-2 win
onto the bracket board to advance into the second round of tournament
action. The Beavers than locked horns with G C Rippers from Granite
City and posted their second straight one sided victory onto the
bracket board by the final score of 11-2. G C Rippers had received
a first round bye to advance into this second round contest with
the Beavers. This win advanced the Beavers into the winner's bracket
unbeaten game where they met and lost to Semo Fence / U.S. National
Guard in a close game 14-13. The loss dropped the Beavers onto the
loser's bracket where they met up with the Killer Beez in a game
that same the Beaver get back on their winning ways as they posted
an 11-4 win onto the bracket board to earn them a second shot at
Semo Fence / U.S. National Guard. The Beavers cashed in this second
opportunity by winning 17-15 over Semo Fence / U.S. National Guard.
This win forced the playing of the 'if necessary game' between these
two ball clubs with the winner's of the extra game also winning
the tournament and the berth to play at the national tournament
in Kentucky.
After two games played these two teams were separate by a total
of a single run scored and it was another single run that separated
them in the deciding game with the Beavers coming out on top this
day by a final score of 18-17 to win the tournament.
Semo Fence / U.S. National Guard opened play with a first round
bye before taking on and defeating the Killer Beez 14-2 in the second
round of tournament play. The Killer Beez had won their opener over
Keglars Korner 7-3 to advance into this econ round contest with
Semo Fence / U.S. National Guard. Now playing in the winner's bracket
undefeated game Semo Fence / U.S. National Guard squared off with
the Beavers for the first time on this day and defeated them 14-13
to win the winner's bracket. Now Semo Fence / U.S. National Guard
had to sit back and wait as the loser's bracket was played out to
its conclusion before knowing who they would be playing in the title
game. When the games being played in the loser's bracket were all
played and the results written down on the bracket board a rematch
with the Beavers awaited Semo Fence / U.S. National Guard in the
championship contest. The Beaver rose up and upended Semo Fence
/ U.S. National Guard 17-15 to even the tournament at one loss each
and with this win caused the playing of the extra game in order
to separate these two evenly matched teams on this day. In that
extra game Semo Fence / U.S. National Guard came up one run short
losing to the Beavers 18-17 to finish in second place at this event.
