The Beavers Win USSSA Class E In Joliet

Twelve Teams Participate At Inwood Sports Complex On Aug. 5th

Lombard's - The Beavers - Champions of USSSA Class E Qualifier In Joliet

JOLIET: The Beavers (4-1) bounced back in the 'if necessary game' to defeat Sneaky Pete's (4-2) from Davenport, Iowa 20-12 to win the twelve team Illinois USSSA Men's Class E Great Lakes National Tournament Qualifier played at the Inwood Sports Complex in Joliet on August 5th. The Beavers qualified to play at the 2006 USSSA Men's Class E Great Lakes National Tournament to be held in Rockford over Labor Day Weekend. Balls Deep (4-2) from Midlothian finished in third place with Xtreme (2-2) from Aurora taking home fourth place from this tournament.
The Beavers opened play with a first round bye before taking on and defeating Off Constantly II from Henry 10-9 in the second round of tournament action. Off Constantly II had defeated High Voltage from Plainfield 8-6 in the first round of play to advance into this second round contest against The Beavers. In their semifinal game of the winner's bracket it was The Beavers and Balls Deep going toe to toe with The Beavers winning 14-11 to advance into the winner's bracket undefeated game. Balls Deep made it to this semifinal game in the winner's bracket by opening play against the Misfits from Carol Stream in the first round and posting a 6-2 win onto the bracket board to advance into the second round where they met Collins Street Auto Parts / 3rd Base from Joliet. Balls Deep improved to 2-0 with a 10-4 victory being record onto the bracket board over Collins Street Auto Parts / 3rd Base to advance into the semifinal and their game against The Beavers.
In the feature game of the winner's bracket, the showdown between the last two remaining unbeaten teams The Beavers and Sneaky Pete's played each other with The Beavers winning this first game 17-12 to assure the Lombard based ball club of their place in the tournament's championship game against whichever team that wins the loser's bracket to qualify as their opponent in the title game.
The Beavers need to sit and wait until the loser's bracket was completed and when it was a rematch with Sneaky Pete's was on tap for them in the championship game. Sneaky Pete's went out to get some revenge over the team that had beaten them earlier in the day and did just that handing The Beavers a 15-11 loss to even this tournament at one loss each and force the need to have the 'if necessary game' played in order to determine which of these two teams would be the champion on this day.
In the deciding game it was The Beavers over Sneaky Pete's 20-12 to give them the title to this tournament.
Sneaky Pete's made it to the tournament's championship game by opening play with a first round bye before taking on and defeating the Vipers from Streamwood 18-8 in the second round of play in the winner's bracket. The Vipers had previously defeated the Heavy Hitters from Bolingbrook 12-11 to advance into this second round game against Sneaky Pete's. In their semifinal game of the winner's bracket it was Sneaky Pete's and Extreme going head to head with Sneaky Pete's winning 11-0 to advance into the undefeated game of the winner's bracket. Xtreme made it to this semifinal game of the winner's bracket by getting a first round bye before stopping Seek & Destroy from New Lenox 12-5 in the second round of play to advance into this game with Sneaky Pete's.
Sneaky Pete's was upended in the undefeated game by The Beavers 17-12 to drop them into the loser's bracket finals where they met and defeated Balls Deep 15-14 to earn the right to challenge unbeaten The Beavers in the title game. Sneaky Pete's took full advantage of this second opportunity and hung a loss on The Beavers beating them 15-11 to even this tournament at one loss each and force the 'if necessary game' to be played between these two squads. In that extra game it was The Beavers getting the better of it winning 20-12 to send Sneaky Pete's back home with second place from this tournament.
