Aurora Turners Champions Of USSSA
Class D In Aurora
AURORA: The Aurora Turners (6-1)
came back after dropping their second game to run off five straight
wins including a double dipping of the Hot Shots (3-2) from Warrenville
14-11 and 12-6 to win the nine team USSSA Men's Class D tournament
title at the Turner Club in Aurora on June 25th & 26th. The
champions qualified to play at the USSSA Men's Class D Great Lakes
National Tournament in Blaine Minnesota over Labor Day Weekend.
St Georges Club (2-2) from Aurora finished in third place with Plano
Legion/Vineyard Liquors (2-2) from Plano taking home fourth place
honors from this tournament.
Aurora Turners opened play with a first round 17-7 win over Rambo's
to open play in this tournament. In their second contest Aurora
Turners lost to the Hot Shots by a final score of 13-12 to drop
them into the loser's bracket.
Saturday's third and final game for the Aurora Turners was an impressive
25-9 win over Sharp Softball from Romeoville.
On Sunday morning the Aurora Turner Club opened play with a narrow
10-8 win over Plano Legion/Vineyard Liquors in their first game
on Sunday morning.
In the loser's bracket finals Aurora Turners slipped past St Georges
Club 11-10 to earn a spot in the tournament's championship game
against the Hot Shots.
Taking a measure of revenge on the Hot Shots the Aurora Turners
defeated the previously unbeaten Warrenville ball club by a final
score of 14-10 to force the need to have the 'if necessary game'
played in order to determine which of these two team would be the
tournament champion.
In that extra game it was the Aurora Turners defeating the Hot Shot
12-6 to claim the title and the first place prize package that goes
with that title.
The Aurora Turner Club did not supply Illinois Softball Report with
any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they managed
to come back through the loser's bracket to win this tournament.
The Hot Shot got to the championship game by winning the winner's
bracket of this nine team event. The Hot Shots opened play with
a 12-7 win over the ice House Dogs from Itasca in the opening round
of tournament action.
The Hot Shots improved to 2-0 with a narrow 13-12 win over the Aurora
Turners ball club in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket.
On Sunday morning it was the Hot Shots defeating St Georges Club
15-6 to win the winner's bracket and earn them a spot in the tournament's
championship game against whichever team that wins the loser's bracket
and the right to oppose them in the finals.
That team turned out to be the Aurora Turners and in a close game
the Aurora based ball club handed the Hot Shots a loss by the final
score of 14-11 and with this loss forced the playing of the extra
softball game to determine which of these two ball clubs would be
the tournament champion this day.
The Hot Shots came out on the short end of a 12-6 score and were
forced to settle for second place from this tournament.
The Hot Shots did not provide Illinois Softball Report with any
team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were able
to finish in second place from this tournament.
