ASA Hall Of Fame - Continued

(Dorothy Westbrook with her late husband Jim Westbrook Hall of Fame Plaque)

Freeman spoke of the commitment that each softball player must make in order to play a full schedule of softball during a season. He went on to say, "I think it is probably a bigger commitment on the part of the player's family, and I am certainly grateful to my family."
The evening loudest and longest ovation was given to Brain Martie. Rudy Klokkenga recapped Martie's illustrious career that included playing at every ASA National Tournament from 1986 through 2000. Klokkenga described the soft spoken Martie by saying "Brian is as quite as a church mouse, yet he plays like a roaring lion."
In accepting his award Martie said, "I'd like to thank the selection committee for being considered for this award."
Ron Steen spoke on behalf of his friend Pete Petrovich by saying, "He's played softball for sixty years…. Pete is still playing one night a week in Senior Softball slow-pitch and one night a week in fast-pitch softball."
Petrovich said, "I remember being pulled off second base in 1959 so that I could get my wife to the hospital for our daughter being born."
Emerick was called upon for a second time as he introduced Steve Porter as a media inductee to the audience by saying, "He has covered girl's fast-pitch softball, high school fast-pitch softball, men's fast-pitch softball and slow-pitch softball.
Porter said, "I'd like to tell you one story about Leroy, he actually invented softball. How do I know this? Leroy told me."
Ray Hoffman served as a dual presenter next by introducing the husband and wife inductee's George Renner, in the manager category and Lynn Renner, in the Female Player category. Hoffman speaking of George said, "He never said anything bad about another person. He was always positive when speaking to an umpire, player or a fan."
George Renner spoke of joys of coaching an outstanding team that gave him an opportunity to play at the ASA National, and of the friendship that softball had given him.
