Release
The 2nd Annual Illinois Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame
Induction Ceremony
and Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 27th at 6:00 PM at the
Decatur Holiday Inn.
Fifteen former Illinois softball greats have been selected for
enshrinement in this year's
Hall of Fame Class. The list of inductees and a brief biography
of each follows:
BRIAN MARTIE - Bloomington (Ramsay), Illinois
- Appeared in every National Tournament from 1986 - 2000
- Three-time MVP of Illinois ASA State Tournament
- Participated on the 1998 USA Softball National Team, where hw
hit .300
- First Team ASA All-American in 1997 and 1998
- Third team ASA All-American in 1993
- Played on teams that finished 3rd and 4th in the ASA National
Tournaments
- Won a gold medal in the 1994 U.S. Olympic Festival
GARY ROSENDOHL - Percy, Illinois
- Played Men's Fast-Pitch Softball for 15 years with Decatur A's,
Murdale Oilers, Alton Leary and Meade
- Played for St Louis Budweiser Kings, Pinckneyville Celtics and
Steelville American Legion. Decatur, Murdale and Alton all won
state titles during his tenure with teams.
STEVE PORTER - Alton, Illinois
- Editor of Alton Telegraph
- Formerly Sports Editor of the Alton Telegraph
- Covered ASA Softball for over 20 years
JEFF DAVIS - Wood River, Illinois
- Men's Slo-Pitch Manager
- Sponsor of teams such as Phonemasters/TPS and Kohlers. These
teams won one National Championship and three (3) State Championships.
GEORGE RENNER - Granite City, Illinois
- Manager of fames Belleville Whiz Kids. This Women's Slo-Pitch
team won 12 Illinois ASA state titles and finished 2nd in the
nation in the 1989 National Tournament.
LYNN RENNER - Granite City, Illinois
- Star Pitcher for the Belleville Whiz Kids
- Made First Team All-American in 18989
PAUL TOMAZZOLI - Hillsboro, Illinois
- Long-time umpire for Illinois ASA
- Worked several State and national Tournaments
- Currently the Fast-Pitch UIC for Illinois ASA
JIM WESTBROOK (Deceased) - Hillsboro, Illinois
- Great 3rd baseman for the Coffeen Roadrunners, formerly one
of the top Class A teams in Illinois
JIM FASSERO - Kinkaid, Illinois
- A fast-pitch player, manager for over 20 years in Taylorville
before switching to Decatur Riley team in 1966-1968
- Competed in Men's Fast-Pitch Softball from 1952 to 1996 when
he retired at the age of 59
EUGENE 'PETE' PETROVICH - Mascoutah, Illinois
- Fast-pitch player, manager and sponsor for 61 years.
- Still manages Pete's Blues
- Competes as a player in Senior Softball at 76 years of age
FRED BARDFIELD - Orlando, Florida (Decatur)
- Veteran umpire who has worked many State and national Tournaments
RAY ROBERSON- Champaign, Illinois
- Manager for many years in Champaign-Urbana area
LARRY DAVIS - Peoria, Illinois
- Fast-pitch power hitter who had outstanding career with Peoria

BARRY FREEMAN - Wright City, Missouri
- Pitch for Decatur A's, Decatur Riley's and Springfield Quality
Furniture
- Most Valuable Player for 1973 State Champion Quality Furniture
FORREST 'BUTCH' WOODS - Bloomington, Illinois
- Made 1st Team All-State five times as a catcher fro Bloomington
Hearts and Bloomington GMC
The Illinois ASA Hall of Fame was established in 1969. It is the
highest honor attainable by a player, manager, sponsor, media or
fan. The public is invited to the induction ceremonies. Tickets
are $27 and can be purchased from the Illinois ASA State Commissioner
