Alpha's Sports Bar Wins ISA Recreational
Tavern State
Eleven Teams Participate At Route
130 Complex In Urbana On 7/9 & 10

URBANA: Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge
from Channahon ran the table on the field of eleven teams playing
at the 2005 ISA Men's Recreational tavern State Tournament held
at the Route 130 Complex in Urbana on July 9th and 10th. The champions
were led by the play of the tournament's MVP Scott Malone. He was
joined on the All-Tournament team by his teammates Scott Hogen,
Terry Feeney, Sean Tuohope, Doug Grassman, and Adam Feeney. Robinson
Plumbing (5-2) finished in second place and they were led by the
play of Tom Sego who was named as the 'Gold Glove ' winner of the
tournament for his defensive glove work during this tournament.
Sego was joined on the All-Tavern State Tournament team by his teammates
Brian Noel, Eric Swanson, Mark McMahon, and John Drowns. Instant
Reply (5-2) took home third place and they placed three players
onto the All-Tavern State Tournament team and they were Kevin Edminston,
Sean Eten, and Keith Knipmeyer. Fourth place went too Joe's Pizza
(3-2) who also place two players on the All-Tavern State Tournament
Team and they were; Shawn Nichols, Sean Leavitt.
Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge opened tournament play with a first round
bye before taking on and defeating Instant Replay 12-11 in the second
round of tournament action. Instant Replay had advanced into the
second round by defeating Joe's Pizza 13-11 in the first round of
play.
Late on Saturday afternoon Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge played Final
Four Sports Bar in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket and
posted an impressive 16-2 win to move into Sunday's showdown game
between the last two unbeaten team left in this tournament. Final
Four Sports Bars made it into the tournaments semifinal round by
opening with a first round bye before defeating Dave's Pizza 12-11
in the second round of tournament action.
On Sunday morning Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge squared off with Robinson
in the battle between this tournament's last two remaining unbeaten
teams with Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge coming out on top in this contest
by the final score of 15-14.
Now Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge needed to it back and wait as the
loser's bracket needed to play out to its conclusion before they
would know which of the remaining teams would be their opponent
in the championship game. As the dust settled back down onto the
field of play after the last out had been recorded in the loser's
bracket Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge looked up to see a familiar face
awaiting to play them in the finals, Robinson Plumbing.
For the second time on this Sunday both Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge
and Robinson Plumbing locked horns and like the first game it was
Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge edging out Robinson Plumbing 6-3 to claim
the 2005 ISA Men's Recreational Tavern State Title.
Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge did not send any team information, stats,
highlights or quotes to Illinois Softball Report about this tournament.
Robinson Plumbing made it into the championship game by opening
tournament play with a first round bye before taking on and defeating
Gateway Liquors 16-9 in the second round of play. Gateway Liquors
also received a fir4st round bye when their scheduled opponent no
showed at the tournament.
In their semifinal game on Saturday afternoon Robinson Plumbing
pounded out an impressive 12-4 win over Rocks to move into Sunday's
undefeated game.
On Sunday morning Robinson Plumbing and Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge
squared off in the undefeated game with Robinson Plumbing coming
out on the short end of a one run game losing to Alpha's Sports
Bar Lounge by a final score of 15-14.
Robinson Plumbing now needed to win their loser's bracket contest
against Instant Replay in order to earn a second shot at Alpha's
Sports Bar Lounge and the 2005 ISA Recreational Tavern State Title.
Robinson Plumbing was up to the challenge at hand as they sent home
Instant Replay with third place after beating them 18-16. This win
earned Robinson Plumbing the right to play Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge
for the 2005 ISA Men's Recreational State Title.
The championship contest was another close game but for the second
time on this Sunday Robinson Plumbing came up a little short against
Alpha's Sports Bar Lounge losing 6-3 and they were forced to accept
second place from this state tournament
Robinson Plumbing did not provide Illinois Softball Report with
any team information, stats, highlights or quotes on how they were
able to achieve their second place finish at this tournament.
