Alfa's Champions of USSSA Class E In Oswego On June 3rd, 2006

OSWEGO: Alfa's from Joliet went a perfect 3-0 to win the five team USSSA Men's Class E Great lakes national Tournament Qualifier played at the Oswego High School Complex on June rd. The champions received a berth to play at the 2006 USSSA Men's Class E Great Lakes National Tournament to be held in Rockford over Labor Day Weekend. Damaged Goods (3-2) from Sugar Grove finished in second place with Whitey's (1-2) taking home third place from this tournament.
Alfa's opened play with a 15-3 win over Stirn's Marine from Aurora in their opening game of the tournament. Stirn's Marine had defeated the Big Easy Bar & Grill from Yorkville 23-5 in a play in game to advance into the bracket to play Alfa's in the first round of this tournament. Alfa's than played Whitey's for the title to the winner's bracket and posted a 5-3 win onto the bracket board to advance in to the tournament's championship game against which ever team that wins the loser's bracket to earn the right to oppose them in the finals. That team turned out to be Damaged Goods and Alfa's completed their sweep of the field of teams by beating Damaged Goods 15-5 in the championship game to win this tournament undefeated.
Damaged Goods made it to the championship game the hard way by losing their opening game and having to come back through the loser's bracket to get to the finals. Damaged Goods opened play with a narrow 10-9 loss to Whitey's to drop them into the loser's bracket from the get go of this tournament. Damaged Goods right their ship with a big 22-4 wins over the Big Easy Bar & Grill to advance in the loser's bracket. Next up was a contest with Stirn's Marine and Damaged Goods was starting to roll as they poured twenty more runs across the pay station to win 20-10. Now Damaged Good faced the team that had put them into eh loser's bracket in their opening game by a single run Whitey's. Damaged Goods returned the favor by the identical score over Whitey's winning 10-9 to put them into the championship game against Alfa's. This is where Damaged Goods dream of coming all the way through the loser's bracket to with tournament ended as Alfa's complete their undefeated run to the title by beating Damaged Goods 15-5 in the championship game to send Damaged Goods home with the second place prize package from this tournament.
