Add-A-Bath / Demarini Wins USSSA Women's Class C/D

Seven Teams Participate At Forest Hills Diamonds In Rockford On July 22nd

ROCKFORD: Add-A-Bath / Demarini (6-1) from Gurnee came back through the loser's bracket to defeat the Sharks (3-2) from Waukesha, Wisconsin twice 14-11 and 15-6 to win the seven teams, USSSA Women's Class C/D/E Equalizer Tournament played at Forest Hills Diamonds on July 22nd. The champions earned a berth to play at the 2006 USSSA Women's Class C Great Lakes National Tournament to be held in Rockford over Labor Day Weekend. Rounding out the top four teams were Souse's Lounge ( 2-2) from Rockford finishing in third place with G.A.M.O.T.O. (1-2) from St Charles taking home fourth place at this tournament.
Add-A-Bath / Demarini opened tournament play with a first round game against Absolute from Decatur and won a high scoring wild game 21-19 to advance in the bracket. In their second game Add-A-Bath / Demarini tasted defeat as Souse's Lounge jump all over them and did not let up winning 15-4 to push Add-A-Bath / Demarini down into the loser's bracket. Souse's Lounge had opened play with a first round 14-13 win over Rosati's of Wheaton to advance into this second round contest with Add-A-Bath / Demarini.
Once in the loser's bracket the ladies from Gurnee went to work starting with Rock Bottom from Dundee who was dismissed from this tournament by Add-A-Bath / Demarini after a 19-7 final score was posted onto the bracket board. Next op for Add-A-Bath / Demarini was a date with G.A.M.O.T.O and Add-A-Bath / Demarini was just hitting their stride as they rolled over the St Charles ladies 14-4 to move into the loser's bracket championship game, and a chance at gaining a little revenge on the team that had but them into the loser's bracket earlier in the day Souse's Lounge. Add-A-Bath / Demarini was a team on a roll and that is exactly what they did as they rolled over Souse's Lounge by a final score of 13-2 to send the Rockford ladies home with third place from this tournament.
Add-A-Bath / Demarini did not rest on their laurels here and now they continued to hit the ball and play defense as they defeated previously unbeaten Sharks by a final score of 14-11 to force the need to have the 'if necessary game' played between these two ball clubs in order to determine which of them would be the champions from this tournament. In that extra game Add-A-Bath / Demarini continued to hit and score runs as they won by the final margin of 15-6 to claim the title over the Sharks.
The Sharks made it to the championship game by opening play with a first round 28-20 win over Rock Bottom In their second game it was more of a chess game put the results were the same the Sharks winning as they defeated G.A.M.O.T.O. 7-6 to advance into the winner's bracket finals. G.A.M.O.T.O. had received a first round bye to advance into this second round contest with the Sharks. The Sharks and Souse's Lounge went at one another in the battle between this tournaments last two unbeaten teams with the Sharks getting the better of it as they won 12-7 to assure them of a spot in the tournament's championship game against whichever team that would emerge from the loser's bracket to challenge them in the title game.
That team turned out to be Add-A-Bath / Demarini and they were a team on a mission as they stopped the Sharks 14-11 in the first championship game and than stopped the Sharks again by the final score of 15-6 to send the Sharks back home to Wisconsin with a second place finish from this tournament.
