Add-A-Bath / Demarini Wins USSSA
Women's Class
Seven Teams Participate At Forest
Hills In Rockfrod on June 17th

ROCKFORD: Add-A-Bath / Demarini
(5-1) from Gurnee came charging out of the loser's bracket to upend
Team BP twice 12-10 and 15-1 to win the Illinois USSSA Women's Class
C Great Lakes national Tournament qualifier played at the Forest
Hills Diamonds Complex in Rockford on Sunday June 24th. The champions
earned a paid berth to play at the 2007 USSSA Great Lakes Women's
Class C National Tournament to be held over Labor Day Weekend in
Canton, Michigan. Add-A-Bath / Demarini also earned a berth to play
at the 2007 Illinois USSSA Women's Class C State Tournament to be
held in Rockford in August. Tournament runner-up Team BP from Rockford
earned a paid berth to play at the state tournament with third place
finisher PM Pub (2-3) from Milwaukee, Wisconsin took home third
place and received a state berth also with Northern Diamonds / Worth
(2-2) from Rockford finished in fourth place at this tournament.
Add-A-Bath / Demarini opened tournament play with a first round
22-7 win over Scores 2007 from Racine, Wisconsin to advance into
the second round of play in the winner's bracket.
Add-A-Bath / Demarini notched their second win in as many tries
when they defeated PCC Power from Elm Grove, Wisconsin 17-5 to advance
into the winner's bracket finals. PCC Power made it to this second
round contest with Add-A-Bath / Demarini by defeating the Northern
Diamonds / Worth 9-6 in the first round of tournament action.
Add-A-Bath / Demarini was sidetracked in the winner's bracket finals
when they were upended by Team BP 12-9 to drop the Gurnee ladies
into the loser's bracket finals where they met PM Pub and posted
a impressive 16-1 victory onto the bracket board to earn a second
chance at both Team BP and the tournament title.
Add-A-Bath / Demarini made the most of this second opportunity when
they evened the tournament at one loss each by bating the team that
had beaten them earlier in the day edging Team BP 12-10. This win
forced the need to have the 'if necessary game played between these
two ball clubs with the winner of that extra game also earning the
tournament title and the berth to play at the 2007 USSSA Women's
Class C National Tournament. The extra game was all Add-A-Bath /
Demarini as the won impressively 15-1 to claim the first place prize
package from this event.
Tournament runner-up Team BP made it to the championship game by
winning the winner's bracket as they opened play with a first round
bye before taking on and defeating Rainbow Separation from Belvidere
in the second round and beating them 13-6. Rainbow Separation had
met and defeated PM Pub 12-11 in the first round of play to advance
into the second round contest with Team BP.
Team BP became the only unbeaten team left in this tournament after
they won the winner's bracket finals over Add-A-Bath / Demarini
winning 12-9.
Now Team BP had to sit and wait until the loser's bracket play was
complete and when it was over they had a rematch with Add-A-Bath
/ Demarini on their hands in the championship game. In a close game
Team BP was edged by Add-A-Bath / Demarini 12-10 and with that loss
the need to play the 'if necessary game' forced an extra game to
be played. Team BP just could not get anything going right in this
extra game losing to Add-A-Bath / Demarini15-1 and with that loss
having to settle for the second place prize package from this tournament.
