2006 Illinois USSSA Women's Class
C State Champions - Add-A-Bath / Demarini
ROCKFORD: Add-A-Bath / Demarini
from Gurnee won the 2006 Illinois USSSA Women's Class C State title
in Rockford at the Forest Hills Diamonds on Saturday August 26th
with a perfect 4-0 record. The champions were led to the title by
the play of right fielder and lead-off hitter Tracy Pecs who was
named as the 'Most Valuable Player' at the 2006 Illinois USSSA Women's
Class C State Tournament. Joining Pecs on the 2006 Illinois USSSA
'All-State Tournament' team were her Add-A-Bath teammates Jan Fitzgerald,
Kelly Miller and Kelly Olmstead. Souse's Lounge (3-2 from Rockford
finished in second place and were led by the outstanding defensive
glove work turned in by their first baseman Dawn Worden. Joining
Worden on the 2006 Illinois USSSA Women's Class C 'All-State Tournament'
team were her Souse's Lounge teammates, Desa Smith, Brandi Mitchell,
and Stephanie Timmerman. Third place went to Blackhawk Athletic
Club (3-2) from Rockford who were led by the play of both Lori Franz
and Miranda Fudge who were both also named to the 2006 Illinois
USSSA Women's Class C 'All-State Tournament' team. The Sharks (2-2)
from Waukesha, Wisconsin finished in fourth place to round out the
top four finishing teams at this tournament.
Add-A-Bath / Demarini opened tournament play with a first round
13-4 win over the Sharks to advance into the second round of play
where they met and defeated Blackhawk Athletic Club 15-5 to move
into the winner's bracket undefeated game. Blackhawk Athletic Club
had beaten G.A.M.O.T.O. from St Charles 17-7 in the first round
of play to advance into this second round contest with Add-A-Bath
/ Demarini.
In the game that featured the last two remaining unbeaten teams
it was Add-A-Bath / Demarini and Souse's Lounge going head to head
with Add-A-Bath / Demarini winning 9-3 to become the only unbeaten
team left in this tournament. Now Add-A-Bath / Demarini had to sit
and watch as the loser's bracket need to be completed before they
would know which of the one of the remaining teams would win the
right to be their opposition in the 2006 Illinois USSSA Women's
Class C state championship game. When the last out of the loser's
bracket had been recorded into the official score book it was a
rematch with Souse's Lounge that was on tap for Add-A-Bath / Demarini
in the title game.
Add-A-Bath / Demarini used their defense to defuse any thought that
Souse's Lounge had of upending the Gurnee ladies in the title game
winning 6-1 to put a ribbon on their 2006 Illinois USSSA Women's
Class C State championship as a team.
Souse's Lounge made it to the 2006 state championship game by opening
play with a one run win over Rosati's of Wheaton. Trailing 6-0 before
batting in the first inning Souse's Lounge shut down their opponent
without a run the rest of the way as the offense chipped away a
little her and a little three managing to pull out a one run win
7-6 over Rosati's of Wheaton in the first round of play to advance
into the second round.
Souse's Lounge continued their overall team defense as they held
Rainbow Separation to only two runs winning 6-2 to advance into
the winner's bracket championship game and a match up with Add-A-Bath
/ Demarini. Rainbow Separation had defeated both the Absolute ball
club from Decatur 13-2 in a play in game to the regular bracket
before stopping the top seeded team of this tournament the Northern
Diamonds / Worth 6-2 in the first round of tournament action to
advance into this semifinal contest with Souse's Lounge.
Souse's Lounge than played Add-A-Bath / Demarini in the winner's
bracket undefeated game and came out on the short end of a 9-3 score
to drop the Rockford ladies into the loser's bracket where they
needed to defeat Blackhawk Athletic Club in order to get a second
chance at playing Add-A-Bath / Demarini. Souse's Lounge took care
of business with Blackhawk Athletic Club winning 14-7 to earn a
second shot at Add-A-Bath / Demarini and the state title. This was
as close as Souse's Lounge would get on this Saturday afternoon
as Add-A-Bath / Demarini stopped Souse's Lounge offense literally
cold winning 6-1 to send the Rockford ladies home with the second
place trophy from this state tournament.
