Add-A-Bath / Demarini Win USSSA C/D

Nineteen Teams Partake At Annual Women's Tournament At Byron Fest

2007 Byron Fest Women's Champions: Add-A-Bath / Demarini from Gurnee

BYRON: Add-A-Bath / Demarini (5-0) from Gurnee won the 2007 Illinois USSSA Women's Class C/E Equalizer Tournament also know as 'Byron Fest' played on July 14th & 15th at the Byron Sports Complex in Byron over a field of nineteen teams. The champions earned to top cash prize offered from this tournament along with a berth to play at the 2007 USSSA Great Lakes Women's Class C National Tournament to be held over labor day Weekend in Canton, Michigan plus a berth to play at the 2007 Illinois / Wisconsin Women's Class C State Tournament to be held in Rockford during August. Tournament runner up Mood Swings (7-2) from Schaumburg won a USSSA Women's Class D National Berth to play over Labor Day weekend at Ft Knox, Kentucky plus a state berth to play at the 2007 USSSA Illinois / Wisconsin State tournament to be held in Rockford during August. The Sharks (3-2) from Milwaukee, WI took home third place with Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc. (4-2) from St Charles finishing in fourth place. Finishing in a tie for fifth place were both Team BP (2-2) from Rockford and Rainbow Separation (2-2) from Belvidere with both Neighbors Bar & Grill 2 (3-2) from Rockford and Culvers (2-2) from Brownstown finishing in a tie for seventh place at this tournament.
Add-A-Bath / Demarini opened play on Saturday with a first round 22-12 win over Double D's from Godley. The lady Double D's had won a play in game over Rogers Drywall from Rockford 11-1 to advance into this game against Add-A-Bath / Demarini.
Later on Saturday afternoon it was Add-A-Bath / Demarini and LPH Softball from Rockford tangling with one another as Add-A-Bath / Demarini posted another victory up onto the bracket board by a final score of 20-19. LPH Softball made it to this second round game by winning their first round game over Mood Swings 12-6.
On Sunday morning it was Add-A-Bath / Demarini and Rainbow Separation going toe to toe with each other with Add-A-Bath / Demarini came out on top on this Sunday morning winning 18-8 to put the ladies from Gurnee into the winner's bracket finals. Rainbow Separation made it to this semifinal game of the winner's bracket by opening play with a win over Dandi's Drunks from Rockford 15-7 in the first round of play before stopping Walsh Electrical Consultants, Inc 6-5 to earn the right to play Add-A-Bath / Demarini in a semifinal game of this years 'Byron Fest' tournament.
In the game that featured the last two remaining unbeaten teams left in this tournament it was Add-A-Bath / Demarini and the Sharks going at each other with Add-A-Bath / Demarini escaping with a narrow one run win 20-19 to win the winner's bracket and assure the ladies from Gurnee of a spot in the tournament's championship game against whichever team that emerges from the loser's bracket to oppose them in the finals. The Sharks made it to the undefeated game of the winner's bracket by opening play with as first round 12-3 win over Neighbors Bar & Grill 2. In their second game on Saturday afternoon the Sharks met and defeated WOW from Joliet 1807 to put them into Sunday mornings winner's bracket semifinals. WOW had defeated the Worth / Northern Diamonds from Rockford 17-15 in the first round of play to advance into this second round contest against the Sharks.
The team that emerged from the loser's bracket to oppose Add-A-Bath / Demarini in the finals turned out to be the Mood Swings. Add-A-Bath / Demarini kept their focus as a team and went about the business at hand inning that final game to win a tournament as they beat Mood Swings 19-9 to claim the title to the 2007 'Byron Fest' women's championship.
