Champions Valerie's Vase Shoppe
NAPERVILLE: Valerie's Vase Shoppe (7-0)
from Crystal Lake won the 30th
Annual Naperville Spring Tune-up 12" Tournament held April
19-20 at Frontier Park.
The champions pocketed six hundred seventy five dollars for their
efforts. Darcy Motors / Stone City VFW / Hooded Frogs (6-1) from
Joliet took home second place earning four hundred seventy five
dollars. Finishing in a tie for third place were Full Tilt Softball
(5-1) from Itasca taking home three hundred and fifty dollars and
the Road Dawgs (4-3) from Joliet and earning them two hundred fifty
dollars.
Valerie's Vase Shoppe opened the 'Pool Play' portion of the tournament
on Saturday afternoon with three wins as they stopped Tommy Nevin's
Pub / Golf Invite from Naperville 26-13 in their opening game. In
their second contest on Saturday afternoon Valerie's Vase Shoppe
pounded out an impressive 40-4 win over the Softball Junkies from
Arlington Heights.
Valerie's Vase Shoppe completed their sweep of the 'pool' by defeating
the Road Dawgs 24-11 on Saturday afternoon. Each of these three
wins on Saturday earned Valerie's
Vase Shoppe twenty-five dollars plus they took home the one hundred
dollar bonus for wining their pool on Saturday.
On Sunday morning Valerie's Vase Shoppe and the Titians from Naperville
did battle with Valerie's Vase Shoppe winning big by a final score
of 15-5 earning the Crystal Lake ball club another seventy-five
dollars in prize money.
Next up was a battle between Valerie's Vase Shoppe and KBI from
Joliet with Valerie's Vase Shoppe turning five double plays to earn
a 13-9 win and one hundred dollars sending them into the semifinal
of the 2008 Naperville Spring Tune-up Tournament.
KBI had earned a first round bye by winning their 'pool' on Saturday
before stopping
Naperville's Duck Snorts 28-0 in their first game of the single
elimination tournament sending up against Valerie's Vase Shoppe.
Valerie's Vase Shoppe and Full Tilt Softball lined up to play one
another with one hundred twenty-five dollars going to the winner
and Valerie's Vase Shoppe took care of business winning 16-2 to
send them into the tournament's championship game. Full Tilt Softball
also had won their 'pool' on Saturday earning them a first round
bye of this twenty-four-team event. In the second round Full Tilt
Softball met and defeated Tommy Nevin's Pub / Good Wood from Naperville
16-5 before stopping the Slugs from Aurora 15-4 to advance into
the semifinal and a date to play Valerie's Vase Shoppe.
The championship game against Darcy Motors / Stone City VFW / Hooded
Frogs was broken open in the top of the seventh inning when Valerie's
Vase Shoppe scored eleven huge runs to break the game open as they
went on to win 26-8 earning the two hundred dollar prize that went
to the winner of the final game.
Tournament runner-up Darcy Motors / Stone City VFW / Hooded Frogs
played in a morning pool on Saturday and they also posted three
straight wins to earn one hundred seventy-five dollars and a first
round by on Sunday.
In 'Pool Play' on Saturday morning Darcy Motors / Stone City VFW
/ Hooded Frogs first
played Dirty Softball from Geneva and posting a 21-2 win onto the
board. In their second contest Darcy Motors / Stone City VFW / Hooded
Frogs met and defeated the Titans from Naperville 14-4. Darcy Motors
/ Stone City VFW / Hooded Frogs completed the sweep of their 'pool'
by slipping past the Diamond Cutters from Naperville 19-15.
