River Dogs Win USSSA Class E In Wamac

Five Teams Particpaiit In Round-Robin Formated Tournaemnt On 6/23

WAMAC: The River Dogs from O'Fallon went a perfect 4-0 to capture to top prize at the Illinois USSSA Men's Class E Great Lakes National Qualifying Tournament held at Wamac City Park fields in Wamac on June 23rd. The champions won the five-team round-robin formatted event and will be traveling to Rockford over Labor Day Weekend to participate in the 2007 Great Lakes Men's Class E National Tournament. The Mighty Ducks (3-1) from Red Bud took home second place with Three B Drywall (2-2) from Wamac taking third place honors from his event in which al thee top finishers earned berths to play at the 2007 Southern Illinois Men's Class E state tournament to be held in August.
River Dogs opened play with a 14-3 win Miller Lite from Johnston City in their first game. Game number two was win number two as the River Dogs met and defeated Three B Drywall in a close game 17-16 to remain unbeaten in this tournament.
Game number three matched the River Dogs against the Freedon Riders from Wamac and the River Dogs hung their third straight win onto the bracket board winning by a final score of 12-5. This win set the stage for the River Dogs fourth and final game in which they were playing unbeaten Might Ducks. One game with the tournament championship hanging in the balance for the winning team and that team turned out to be the River Dogs as the men from O'Fallon complete their undefeated run to the title at this tournament by upending the Might Ducks 8-0 in the deciding game of this tournament.
Tournament runner up Might Ducks opened play with a first round win over the Freedon Riders 13-0. In their second game the Might Ducks and Miller Lite hooked up with one another as the Might Ducks improved to 2-0 with a 16-9 win being posted up onto the bracket board. The Mighty Ducks than were matched with Three B Drywall as the posted there third straight win 17-13 to advance into their final game against also unbeaten River Dogs. The Might Ducks came out on the short end of this one losing to the River Dogs 8-0 and with that loss finishing in second place from this tournament.
