
Mike "Pete" Peters was born in Kankakee,
Illinois on November 23, 1952. He is married to Linda and have
one son, one daughter and six grandchildren.
Peters began his softball career in 1974 at Pier
6 in Aroma Park with the Homestead which later became No Dogs
Allowed for ten years. From there he played with the St. Anne
Foundry for four years.
Peters teams made it to the State tournament
every year with both teams finishing in the top five several times.
He was also name to a part of many all tournament teams.
Peters also played with Armstrong in the Industrial State tournament
for five years making the all tournament team three times. With
the Manteno A's he won the 35 and over State tournament and he
was also named the MVP of that state tournament.
Peters competed in the 35 and over World Series
in Cincinnati and his team finished in 3rd place. Peters was named
a part of the NSA All-World Tournament team.
After his tournament career he continued to participate
in two leagues until his retirement. Two years ago Mike retired
after playing his last game in a 50 and over tournament in Las
Vegas.
Peters said, "I'd like to thank the Illinois
NSA for giving me the highest honor a softball player can have.
Peters went on to say, "I made a lot of friends threw softball,
some of them were even umpires, not many but some of them."
Peters explained how he started playing slow pitch softball back
in the early seventies and how much the game has changed and the
players have also changed from the nineteen seventies to today.
Peters closed with, "I'll always remember how they game used
to be played."
