J & J Champions Of USSSA In Oswego

Eight Teams, One Day National Qualifying Event On July 14th

OSWEGO: J & J (4-0) went undefeated winning the Illinois USSSA Men's Class E Great Lakes National Championship Tournament qualifier played at the Oswego High School field in Oswego. The Montgomery based ball club earned a berth to play at the 2007 USSSA National Tournament to be held in Rockford over Labor Day Weekend plus a berth to play at the 2007 Illinois Men's Class E USSSA State Tournament to be held in Joliet during August. Northwestern Rehab / Whitey's (4-2) from Oswego took home second place with the Wreckers / Isaac's Construction (2-2) finished in third place and Precision Structures (2-2) took home fourth place from this tournament.
J & J opened play with a first round match up against Stadium Auto from Machesney Park and posted a 20-14 win onto the bracket board to advance in the bracket.
In their second contest of this eight team, one day event J & J met and defeated Precision Structures by a final count of 21-11 advancing the men from Montgomery into the winner's bracket championship game. Precision Structures had defeated Northwest Rehab / Whitey's 20-19 in the first round of play to earn the right to play J & J in the second round of tournament action.
In the winner's bracket undefeated game J & J met and defeated the Wrecker's / Isaac's Construction in a close game 14-13 to become the only unbeaten team left in this tournament and with this win also assuring them of a spot in the tournament's championship game against whichever team that emerges from the loser's bracket to challenge them in the title game.
After waiting out the completion of the loser's bracket J & J was faced with playing Northwestern Rehab / Whitey's in the championship game. The Montgomery ball club completed their undefeated run to this championship by winning 15-5 to take home the top prize from this event.
Tournament runner-up took the long way around getting to the championship game by dropping their opening game to Precision Structures in a one run game 20-19. This loss put Northwestern Rehab / Whitey's backs against the wall with one more loss meaning elimination from this event. The Oswego squad rebound from this tough one run loss to battle their way back to the finals starting with a 13-3 win over Stadium Auto.
In their next game Northwestern Rehab / Whitey's pounded out an impressive 18-2 win over Lite Construction, Inc. from Plano. Sweet revenge was next for Northwestern Rehab / Whitey's as they took advantage of the opportunity of playing the team that had beaten them in the first round of play turning the tables on them and sending them home after beating Precision Structures 10-2.
Now only the Wreckers / Isaac's Construction stood between Northwestern Rehab / Whitey's and a spot in the tournament's championship game. The Oswego based ball club kept their eyes on the teams goal as they posted another win onto the bracket board send the West Chicago based Wrecker's / Isaac's Construction home with third place after beating them 12-4.
The championship game went to J & J over Northwestern Rehab / Whitey's as the Oswego based ball club was forced to accept second place from this tournament losing to J & J by a final score of 15-5 in the final game of this tournament.
