MOUNT PROSPECT: Hype (6-1) won the 2007 ASA Chicagoland Championship tournament played at the Majewski Complex in Mt Prospect on June 21st through 24th by defeating Windy City (6-2) 11-3 in the 'if necessary game' to claim the title. The champions earned a berth to play at the 2007 AS Men's Major Sixteen Inch National Tournament to be held in Marshalltown, IA over Labor Day Weekend. The Miller Forty-fives (5-2) finished in third place with Lounge (4-2) taking home fourth place. Other top finishing teams were Maxim (6-2) and Impact (6-2) tied for fifth place with Envisions (4-2) and Boom (3-2) finishing in a tie for 7th place at this tournament.
The champion Hype opened play on Thursday evening with an 11-2 win over Ten Deep in the first round of tournament play. On Saturday afternoon Hype met and defeated cash 6-1 in the second round of play to advance into Saturday evening's third round of play in the winner's bracket. Cash made it to this game by opening play on Thursday evening with a pigtail win over the Wicked Squids 8-5 before beating Universal Iron 12-11 in the first round of play later that evening to set up their game against Hype in the second round of play.
In the third round of play in the winners bracket Hype sent Steel Gold into the loser's bracket with a 16-11 win to advance Hype into the winner's bracket semifinal on Sunday afternoon. Steel Gold made it to this third round winners bracket game by opening play on Thursday evening with a first round 9-7 win over Impact to advance into the second round on Saturday afternoon were they met and defeated the Dogg Pound 12-3 to earn them the right to play Hype later that Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday afternoon Hype was paired against Lounge in a semifinal game of the winner's bracket with Hype coming away with an impressive 12-2 win to out them into the winner's bracket championship game later that afternoon. Lounge made it to this semifinal game against Hype by opening play on Friday night with a first round 10-0 win over Goodwood to advance in the bracket. On evening Saturday Lounge met and defeated Wallace 15-5 before stopping Boom 7-3 in their third round game of the winner's bracket advancing Lounge into a semifinal game and a date with Hype.
It was Hype and Windy City going toe to toe in the 2007 Chicagoland Championship Tournaments undefeated game with Hype getting the better of it this game winning defensive game 2-0 to become the only unbeaten team left in this tournament and assuring them of a spot in the tournaments championship game against whichever team that emerges from the loser's bracket to challenge them in the title contest.
Hype now had to sit back and watch as the loser's bracket was played out to it's conclusion before knowing which of the remaining team would win out to earn the right to challenge them in the title game. When that last out had been recorded into the official scores book Hype had a rematch with Windy City on tap in the finals.
Windy City came into this game with getting some revenge on the Hype ball club for the loss they suffered in the winner's bracket finals and they did just that beating Hype 11-6 to even the tournament at one loss each and forced the need to have the 'if necessary game' played between these two squads in order to determine which of these two teams would be the champion. In the extra game Hype rebounded from that loss to take home the title defeating Windy City 11-3.
Windy City made it to the championship game by opening play on Friday evening with a 14-2 win over Monsoon from Iowa in the first round of play. Monsoon had previously defeated the Shooters 19-9 in a pigtail game earlier on Friday evening to play their way into this first round match-up against Windy City.
