Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine Win USSSA D/E

Sixteen Team Event At Sugar Grove On April 5th & 6th

SUGAR GROVE: The Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine Service from Glen Ellen went a perfect 5-0 to capture the sixteen team USSSA Men's Class D/E Equalizer Tournament played at the Sugar Grove Sports Complex in Sugar Grove on April 5th & 6th. The champions earned a berth to play at the USSSA Great Lakes Men's Class D National Tournament in Fort Knox, KY over Labor Day weekend and also a paid berth to play at the Illinois USSSA Men's Class D State tournament to be held in Rockford during August. Tournament runner-up Caps / Fury (6-2) from Lombard earned a unpaid nation berth to Fort Knox KY and a paid state berth to Rockford. Third place finisher Connection (3-2) from Lyons earned a half paid state berth with fourth place going to Posse (3-2) from Crystal Lake who took home a unpaid state berth for their play in this event. The Truckers (3-2) from Channahon and Hell Yeah (2-2) from Schaumburg finished in a tie for fifth place at this sixteen-team event.
The Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine Service opened play with a narrow one run win over the Road Dawgs / Heroes West from Joliet 14-13 in the first round of tournament action.
In their second game they met Caps Fury an sent the Lombard ball club down to play in the losers bracket after beating them 21-10 on Saturday. Caps Fury had defeated Dynasty Softball from Chicago 10-6 in the first round of play to advance into this second round contest against the Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine Service.
In their third game on Saturday afternoon the Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine stopped the Posse Softball club 21-13 advancing the Glen Ellen based ball club into Sunday morning winner's bracket undefeated game. Posse had posted win s over both the Underground from Princeton 15-5 in the first round of play and then stopped the Hot Shots from Warrenville 14-13 in the second round to earn the right to play the Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine in a semi-final game of the winner's bracket.
On Sunday morning it was the Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine Service and Connection tangling in the undefeated game with the Glen Ellen ball club getting the better of it winning 17-10 to become the only unbeaten team left I this tournament. Connection made it to the winner's bracket undefeated game by opening play on Saturday with a first round win over Get Boozled / Stallions from Plainfield 16-1 to advance into the second round of play. Connection than met and defeated the Truckers 25-5 to move into the semifinal of the winner's bracket. Connection completed play on Saturday with a 3-0 record when they sent Hell Yeah into the loser's bracket after defeating them 26-16 to earn the right to play the Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine on Sunday winner's bracket championship game.
Later on Sunday the Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine Service completed their undefeated run to the title at this tournament by stopping Caps / Fury for the second time in two days winning the title game 18-7 over the Channahon based ball club.
Tournament runner-up the Caps / Fury opened play on Saturday morning with a 10-6 win over Dynasty Softball to advance in the bracket. In the second round of play Caps / Fury stubbed their toe by losing to the Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine Service 21-10 sending them to the loser's bracket.
Once in the loser's bracket Caps / Fury got their bats on track as they pounded out a 21-12 win over Get Boozled / Stallions to advance and complete their play on Saturday.
Next to exit this tournament at the hands of Caps / Fury on Sunday morning was the Hot Shots by a final score of 17-10.
Game two on Sunday morning saw caps / Fury and Hell yeah tangle with one another and when the dust settled back down on the field of play after the final out had been recorded the scoreboard read 24-17 in favor of Caps / Fury as the Lombard ball club continued their march towards the championship game.
In Sunday mornings third straight game Caps / Fury sent the Posse home with fourth place after beating them 23-13 to advance into the Loser's bracket finals and a match-up against Connection.
This Sunday morning belonged to Caps / Fury as the post their fourth straight win on this day sending Connection home with third place after posting a 22-20 win onto the bracket board to earn them the right to challenge unbeaten Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine Service in the championship game.
This was a close as Caps / Fury would come on this Sunday as they ran out of gas playing in their fifth straight game on Sunday and falling to the Brew Dogs / Alpine Machine Service 18-7 in the title game to finish in second place.
