Hall of Fame Induction Dinner
Saturday March
27, 2010 at the Decatur Hotel and Convention Center
The Illinois Amateur Softball Association
proudly announces the individuals and teams selected into the Illinois
ASA Hall of Fame. Six individuals and four teams will be honored
at this years induction banquet. The list of Inductees for 2010
are as follows:
BILL PHILLIPS from Belleville:
Phillips pitched for twenty-five plus years for teams in the Belleville
area. His 1980 team, Fairview Heights Merchants finished in second
place at the ASA Men's Class A National Fast-pitch Tournament in
Oswego, New York. Phillips is considered to be one of the top three
pitchers in the seventy-five year history of the Belleville City
League.
LARRY GINGER from Taylorville:
Ginger has been involved in ASA softball for over thirty years as
a player, manager and sponsor. Ginger played for eighteen years
compiling a .318 lifetime batting average. His Taylorville JO teams
won six consecutive state championships. His 1979 and 1980 teams
respectively finished in second place and third place at the ASA
JO National Tournaments
GLEN BRANDT from Pleasant Plains:
Brandt sponsored the Pleasant Plaines Brandt Chemical team for over
twenty-five years. His 1985 team won the Illinois ASA Men's Major
Fast-pitch State Tournament. Brandt is also a longtime sponsor and
supporter of local youth teams.
PAT CREEK from Quincy: Creek
has been an ASA Umpire for thirty-six seasons during which time
she has been selected to and worked five ASA National Tournaments.
Creek has also worked countless state tournaments. Creek umpired
the first-ever 18 & Under Gold national Tournament, The Coed
major Slopitch Nationals Tournament and the first ever Women's Slopitch
National Tournament. She also serves as a rules interpreter for
the Illinois High School Athletic Association.
GARY FRAASE from Pleasant Plains:
Fraase has participated in Illinois ASA Men;s Fast-pitch softball
for thirty-five years as a player and manager. Fraase played with
teams from the Springfield area before managing the Springfield
Brandts from 1978 through 1983. In 1977 he set a Illinois ASA Men's
Major Fast-pitch record with six hits in one game during the Illinois
ASA Men's Major Fast-pitch State Tournament that season.
GARY LONNON from Cerro Gordo:
Lonnon who is now deceased was an all around outstanding player
from Central Illinois during the 1960's. Lonnon was named to three
Illinois ASA Men's Major Fast-pitch All-State Tournament while playing
for Cerro Gordo, Decatur Perfect, Perfect Window Cleaners, Decatur
Rileys and Maroa Red Door. Lonnon was a perennial .300 hitter and
he hit a career high seventeen home runs during the 1961 season.
In addition to the above named inductees,
the Illinois ASA Hall of Fame committee has selected the following
organizations for induction into the Illinois ASA Hall of Fame in
the team category:
